Venice Commission’s statement rather tough, registers political persecution component in Hrayr Tovmasyan’s case: lawmaker
The statement of the Venice Commission on the developments over Constitutional Court of Armenia is rather tough, lawmaker from Prosperous Armenia faction Gevorg Petrosyan told the reporters today.
“The tough assessments present in the statement do not stem from the interests of Armenia’s authority. We must become sober, trying to put the accent on the revolution of economy and social values. The senseless arrests, protraction of trials do not stem from Armenia’s interests,” he said.
Petrosyan expressed conviction that the statement of the Venice Commission makes the existence of the component of political persecution against CC president Hrayr Tovmasyan clear.
“What could have been tougher than this statement? They would not say bad words, right? What will we have with these arrests and detentions? It is enough to feed the people with shows. It is very unpromising step. The time has come to become serious and think about people,” the lawmaker said.
Yesterday the president of the Venice Commission released a statement saying that Armenia’s CC president is under attack and that pressure is exerted against him.
