SIS chief describes ban of Arsen Babayan’s meeting with his underage children misunderstanding
Investigator examining former deputy head of NA’s staff Arsen Babayan’s case came to the conclusion that Arsen Babayan’s good behavior may be ensured only in conditions of custody, SIS chief Sasun Khachatryan told the reporters today.
“This is also the reason of putting ban on the visits,” he said.
As to how it appears that a lawmaker may visit Nairi Hunanyan [terrorist] but another lawmaker cannot visit Arsen Babayan, the SIS chief said they have different statuses - Nairi Hunanyan is convicted and serves his punishment, while in case of Arsen Babayan arrest has been chosen as preventive measure to exclude his contacts with other persons.
Asked how the meeting with his underage children will impede the process, Khachatryan said he has no information that Babayan’s meeting with his children was banned.
“If such misunderstanding has taken place, of course, this mistake should be corrected,” he said.
Asked if CC president Hrayr Tovmasyan submitted resignation application the criminal case against Arsen Babayan would not have been instituted, the SIS chief said, “Filing or not filing resignation has no relation to the criminal case. I again repeat that the SIS is not dealing with politics.”
To the observation that Babayan has been arrested under the amnestied article and could not have been arrested, Khachatryan said that for applying amnesty a number of pre-conditions are necessary.
