The CSTO countries attach significance to the terrorism prevention steps, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee for CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, head of the Institute of CIS countries Konstantin Zatulin told the reporters after CSTO PA’s Council’s session in Yerevan today.
Asked whether the recent actions by Azerbaijani side in the sector of Armenia’s Tavush region is not viewed as terrorism and how the CSTO responds to the actions against peaceful population, Zatulin said that one of the reports presented today at the session registered the tension existing in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone.
As to the clarification that they are speaking not about Artsakh but Armenia’s Tavush region, Zatulin said, “If Armenia as a CSTO member state sees the need to discuss the issue with the CSTO member states, it has the right to do it, but I have not heard Armenia to do it,” he said, adding that the official Yerevan has not applied to the CSTO with the issue.
Zatulin stressed that the CSTO member states have commitments before one another.
“Russia views Armenia as partner and in case of attack on it, the mechanisms envisaged by the CSTO will be used. Our 102d military base in Armenia’s territory is not deployed here for beauty,” he said.
