Artsvanik tailing dump exploitation to end in 5 years (video)
Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine envisages raising the height of Artsvik tailing dump with another 40 meters.
ZCMC CEO Mher Poloskov says that the tailing dump has started being exploited from the soviet years and is now in its final phase.
Poloskov says that the process will take about ten years but they have reached an arrangement with the Kapan community to finish its exportation earlier than envisaged – in five-year term.
“While making the strategic analysis of this structure we see that it is very far from us which makes the re-use of water more complicated, besides it is in a settlement. In future we are not planning to have a tailing dump far from our mine and even outside of it,” the CEO said.
In the upcoming months the ZCMC will come up with corresponding projects, get necessary permission and end the activity of the tailing dump continuing the works out of Kapan community.
Poloskov stressed that the dust in the territory of tailing dump is a result of roads which are not cemented while they are wetting them with water.
The CEO said the stability of the structure is a priority.
Samvel Alexanyan, ZCMC stable development director, said after the water level reaches 960 units, it will be the top.
“The territory is covered with land, the re-cultivation has already done, greening works are underway and will be of continuous nature,” Alexanyan said.
