Incumbent authorities lead Karabakh conflict peace talks to deadlock by contradictory statements: Davit Shahnazaryan
New quality dangers added to the former traditional ones, former NSS director Davit Shahnazaryan stated at the first gathering of newly created Vernatun social-political club.
“The incumbent authorities are making numerous contradictory statements, but I want to single out one of them. The authorities continue the negotiations not from the point they reached till May 2018 but starts from a new one. Which is this new point? The first thing is that the current authorities do not want to speak about self-determination and if such phrase is being made it is immediately being tasted with the assessments which essentially contradict the self-determination principle,” Shahnazaryan said.
He stressed that it is obvious that the negotiations are in the deadlock due to contradictory statements and positions of the authorities.
“The most bright example of it is that Baku states there is a document, Armenia says there is no document. It is obvious that the responsible for this situation is Armenia as the situation which existed has essentially changed. Now Azerbaijan and international community are on one side and Armenia on the other. This is the biggest danger for us,” Shahnazaryan said.
“The principle of self-determination must be the basis of the negotiations like it was throughout the conflict, it is necessary to exclude any statement which not only contradicts but casts a shadow on this principle,” he said, stressing that it is necessary to start process of international recognition of Artsakh which he said must be considered all-Armenian issue.
