I left to let people build better state while today they blame me for handing the power to populists: Serzh Sargsyan
The people who came to power in Armenia have not registered any revolutionary breakthrough in either foreign or domestic agenda of the country, Armenia’s third president, chairman of the Republican party Serzh Sargsyan stated at the European People’s Party congress in Zagreb, Croatia.
“In my country the change of power took place in exclusively peaceful way. The goal was one – not to allow any human losses and keep the state away from dangerous shocks. Those who came to power have not registered any revolutionary breakthrough in either foreign or domestic agenda of the country. Moreover, developments endangering the democracy take place in the country, the grounds of the constitutionality have been shuttered, the separation of powers and their balance are not working. The independence of the judicial power has been violated,” Serzh Sargsyan stated.
He stressed that the aggressive actions against opposition mass media and activists have become periodical with the intolerance and hate speech having reached dangerous levels.
“I left for my people to be able to build a better stated but today people blame me for conceding the power to populists,” the third president stated.
“We have our share of guilt in what happened in Armenia, but I convince you that the security and peace issues were always our priorities and may be this is the reason why some issues were subdued to the solution of these issues,” Sargsyan stated.
