Converted right-hand drive cars will not soon be allowed to be imported and exploited in Armenia: PM urges to set exact deadline
The cabinet referred at its sitting today to the issue of right-hand drive cars which are being converted to left-hand drive cars in Georgia and are waiting to be transported to Armenia.
The Prime Minister stressed that a wrong decision has been made which resulted in focusing money in Georgia, as the car importers acquire right-hand drive cars, convert them in Georgia and import them to Armenia.
“They may import the cars, convert them here and only after it the vehicle will be registered and permission will be given for its exploitation. We must register that until converting they will not be allowed to use it otherwise fines should be established. Let us register that we are doing it hoping that no attempts of abuses will be registered,” Pashinyan said.
Deputy Prime Minister Tigran Avinyan in his turn said that the issue whether they agree to importing and exploiting cars with converted wheels in Armenia must be discussed.
Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan said it is necessary to understand the situation.
“I agree with Mr Avinyan. In essence, we generate the volume of mobile property in Armenia which are potential objects of accidents. If we do not carry out certification, it will appear that the majority of the accidents is agreed with the non-professional convert of right-hand drive cars into left-hand drive,” Grigoryan said.
Tigran Avinyan in his turn stressed the necessity of setting clear deadline after which right-hand drive cars (even converted) will not be allowed to be exploited in Armenia.
“Let us register that after these cars are imported we close the way for such cars in general,” Armenia’s PM stressed.
The PM urged to determine a concrete date after which even converted cars will not be allowed to be imported to Armenia. He said no new initiatives should be brought over this issue anymore and urged to hurry up.
