28% of Armenia’s population are smokers: deputy health minister
Twenty-eight percent of Armenia’s population is smoking, deputy health minister Lena Nanushyan stated at the parliament today.
She said among them 52% are adult male and 2-3% female representatives.
“More than the half of the respondents said that they are exposed to secondary smoke, some of them at home and some at job. Over 70% of pregnant women are exposed to secondary smoke daily,” the deputy minister said, reminding that smoking causes serious diseases such as lung cancer, myocardial infarction, diabetes, etc.
Nanushyan said that legislative measures envisage control of the ban on smoking in public transport, cafes and restaurants.
