Political analyst Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan urges Davit Khazhakyan not to retreat

It is obvious that Davit Khazhakyan is implementing oversight function at the Yerevan Council of Elders, political analyst Hrant Melik-Shahnzaryan said speaking to Aysor.am.

He said this is why he urges him to keep the mandate.

“He brings on the agenda issues important regarding the capital’s governance but which are being hidden by the authorities. In essence, Davit Khazhakyan is the only person providing information to the public and if he puts his mandate the urban authorities will become incontrollable,” the political analyst said.

Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan noted that the departure of head of the Luys faction Davit Khazhakyan will mean absence of opposition inside while only the criticism from inside is the only factor keeping the authorities be more effective.

“Definitely, I urge Davit Khazhakyan not to retreat and fight, as this fight is of big significance for the residents of Yerevan. I will also urge Bright Armenia party not to choose the way of recalling Davit Khazhakyan. I do not know the political motives behind this decision, but it is a direct blow to the capital’s governance system,” Melik-Shahnazaryan said.

Member of VETO initiative group Narek Malyan also urged Khazhakyan keep the mandate.
