Page of political trade closed in Armenia: Armenia’s PM

Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan speaking about the Public Council stated that the newly appointed chairman of the council will face many difficulties in the post.

“Styopa Safaryan will assume the post and will have some difficulties as from the very first day of its creation the expediency of the Public Council is under question and recently a lot of discussions were held over it. The mission of the new chairman of the Public Council is rather hard. You face a difficult issue. It is the last chance for the council to be effective as consulting body,” the head of the government stated.

Pashinyan said many forces even have not registered what has happened in the political field and what happens with them.

“Almost the 99% of the political forces planned their activity for the upcoming ten years. These forces have not overcome the shock,” Pashinyan said.

The premier said that after coming to power he had zero interference in the formation of the Public Council. He added that the council comprised of people standing in the springs of formation of the third republic thus he did not consider it expedient to dismiss them using his power irrespective of the attitude toward them.

“I hoped these people would use the opportunity but some perceived it as weakness and as old opportunities, like give me a post otherwise I will convene a press conference, or I will hold a protest action, give me a business otherwise I will say what bad processes are taking place, etc. Nothing of this kind is possible anymore. No matter how many press conferences they convene, no matter what they do, there will be no such relations with the authorities. The page of political trade is closed in Armenia. This is government and not stock of interests where you start buying and selling processes,” he said.

The prime minister also said that very often he listens phrases like “do not launch criminal cases against me and my family otherwise we will become opposition.”

“I couldn’t care less, if you’d become last year, a considerable time would have already passed,” Pashinyan stated.
