Armenia’s PM describes case with YSU Student’s Council president Davit Apoyan a mistake
Armenian government adopted today the draft decision on Human Right Protection National Strategy and Action plan for 2020-2022.
“The sub-context is that when we say that in Armenia the human rights must be protected it means that they must be protected,” Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said today, noting that cases of usage of violence against peaceful demonstrators were registered in Armenia.
“We must confess that in many cases the police, according to tradition, are aggressive for people and this has concrete reasons – lack of education, awareness, literacy. To solve this problem we must first of all confess it,” he said, adding that currently the case with the YSU Student's Council president is being widely discussed and it is necessary to confess that a mistake took place which will have its consequences.
“Today we have two situations – on one hand there is exaggerated aggression and when you very successively fight against it, exaggerated passivity problem in the system appears,” he said.
“We will not run from the problems we will face them. We will not avoid any issue. The government will be the most interested body in fighting for the rights of the people,” he said, adding that police officer must be literate, refrain from using inappropriate force.
