Maralik residents want maternity house continue operating: Maralik medical center acting director
A sector of Gyumri-Yerevan highway still remains closed by the residents of Armenian town of Maralik and nearby villages. They are joined with employees of Maralik maternity house and hospital.
Speaking to Aysor.am, acting director of the Maralik health center Vram Melikyan said the reason of their action is the 2020 January 1 decision of Armenia’s health minister to stop the funding of Maralik maternity house.
“If the maternity house closes 12 employees of the house will lose their jobs, Maralik’s maternity houses registers over 100 births annually. In 2018 126 babies were born their, in 2019 – 106,” Melikyan said, adding that the maternity house serves 17 villages and Maralik town.
He also stressed that at least during the past one and a half year the maternity house has not received any contemporary medical equipment from the state and was supported by philanthropists.
