Constitutional amendments to demand conduction of referendum: justice minister
Need of constitutional amendments has become more vivid, Minister of Justice of Armenia Rustam Badasyan told the reporters today, adding that this is what they have understood from the public demands.
Asked how the constitutional amendments will contribute to the healing of judicial sector, the minister said first it is necessary to choose a model to raise the trust toward the judicial establishments.
“We have initiated changes that will by all means suppose referendum,” the minister said.
Referring to the viewpoint of the former officials that the Constitution should not be changed every five years, Badasyan said, the recent changes made in the Constitution may be considered the “most shameful in Armenia’s history.”
“The necessity of current change has risen as a result of public demand and public discussions,” the minister said, stressing that there is no intention to pass from parliamentary system of governance to semi-presidential so far.
