Authorities register first regress in democracy: Edmon Marukyan criticizes the ruling force for failing the voting on ad hoc committee
With its steps limiting the rights of the opposition the ruling force lays a ground for bad tradition, head of the Bright Armenia faction Edmon Marukyan told the reporters today.
“What the authorities are doing today is the registration of the first big regress in democracy, transparency and is a beginning of very bad tradition of limiting the rights of the opposition,” Marukyan stated, referring to the failure of the voting to set investigative committee to study corruption risks in Yerevan community.
Marukyan reminded the statement of head of My Step faction Lilit Makunts who said that the opposition in Armenia has never been as stronger as it is today, adding that after such statement the ruling force fails the voting of the decision of the membership of the committee already set with the force of law.
Asked why the ruling majority failed the voting, Marukyan said, “Probably Hayk Marutyan made such request, saying, - boys and girls, I have problems, help me, we are a team, aren’t we?! The authorities said – you have no problem.”
Marukyan stressed that the ruling power would have had seven members in the committee and the PAP and Bright Armenia together would have had four.
“People are afraid to create a committee where they would have been a majority and without their vote no decision would have been approved,” he said.
The Bright Armenia faction head also stressed that the authorities are intolerant to listening to the opinion of others and today they are wasting the trust of the people.
“People must know that their trust today is being wasted by these people who are losing their head from the euphoria. Power may spoil a person if the latter is not realized in this life and falls to temptations. Today’s ruling force is getting spoiled more and more and falls to the temptation of having the power,” Marukyan said, adding that the responsibility of the created situation lays on the prime minister who will feel the consequences personally.
