Robert Kocharyan: Formation of new political landscape to be completed this year
The fall was politically active month and it may be stated for sure that “consensus minus one” has principally been realized, Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan said in an interview with Yerevan.Today.
“This year the formation of the new political landscape will be completed, the agenda will be decided which will consolidate the politically active citizens. All understand that the euphoria among the public has passed but the authorities formed under its strong pressure remained,” he said, adding that as it was expected the parliament is a premature attachment of the government which is unable to implement the constitutional function to oversight the executive power.
The second president noted that in the running year the configuration of the parliament will finally stop to reflect the public moods which will mean loss of legislation.
“This circumstance will make the conduction of snap parliamentary elections the must of the time and the main political demand. All this will take place on the background of worsened social-economic situation and the inability of the government to implement the given promises,” he said.
As to whether the snap elections may be conducted this year, Kocharyan said it will depend on the intensity of political processes, level of engagement of citizens, ruling faction and of course, the mistakes of the authorities.
“The possibility of such developments is rather high and the eccentric press conferences like the recent the prime minister gave in Kapan only accelerate the process,” Kocharyan said.
