Constitutional referendum to take place by April 5: My Step faction head
The National Assembly approved the bill which envisages putting the constitutional changes to referendum, head of My Step faction Lilit Makunts told the reporters, adding that it will be sent to the president for signing.
As to whether they have the conviction that the president will sign it or not, Makunts said, “Yes, we have the conviction. At least we have the impression that the president has solidarity with the approach of My Step faction.”
Speaking about the timeframe, Makunts said the referendum will take place by April 5.
Asked why the ruling faction does not follow the PACE call to apply to the Venice Commission as the statement voiced from there contains criticism, Makunts said, “There is no criticism, there is proposal.”
As to why the draft was not sent to international structures before discussing it at the parliament, Makunts said previously the legitimacy of all the elections were put under doubt while the ones held in 2018 were not appealed at any instance.
