Why conduct referendum and not solve the issue by 88 deputies: Edmon Marukyan

Head of the Bright Armenia faction Edmon Marukyan speaking at the special parliament session today asked My Step deputy, author of bill on constitutional amendments Vahagn Hovakimyan why they send the bill envisaging cease of term of CC chairman to the referendum and do not settle it with 88 deputies.

“You are sending millions of Armenian citizens to polling stations, engage the country into electoral processes. Why do you do that?” Marukyan asked.

In response, Hovakimyan claimed that the people do not trust the Constitutional Court.

“People implement their rights through elections, referendums. As far as the issue refers to the CC, the CC cannot be the body that implements the right of the people. With its essence, the CC impedes the reforms in Armenia,” the ruling faction deputy stated.
