My Step faction offers referendum on constitutional amendments
My Step faction will not adopt the bill on constitutional amendments in the first reading but will offer with the authority fixed by 3d point of the Article 202 of the Constitution to conduct a referendum, the author of the bill, deputy Vahagn Hovakimyan stated.
“This is a direct application of democracy, it is the conviction and belief of our political force. We believe our people, we have what to say and what to hear from the people,” the deputy said.
According to the 3d point of the Article 202 of the Constitution, in case the National Assembly does not adopt the draft of the amendments to the Constitution, it may be put to referendum upon the decision adopted by at least three fifths of votes of the total number of Deputies.
The draft included in the current extraordinary session proposes that Article 213 of the Constitution be edited. The bill states, in particular, that term of office of the Constitutional Court President and members appointed prior to the 2015 constitutional referendum be ceased.
