ARF-D calls to ignore April 5 referendum

Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaktsutyun has released a statement on its position over the constitutional referendum scheduled for April 5 in Armenia.

The political force stated that the current authorities are again ignoring numerous calls and warnings and engage the country into “adventure.”

“By exploiting and deforming referendum – the important institute of direct democracy – the authorities are covering their own goals to reach monopoly and their inability to neutralize the threats the country is facing,” the ARF-D said in the statement, describing the approach of the authorities to solve issues unlawfully inadmissible.

In the statement the political force urges the citizens not to become participant of the regular illegality initiated by the authorities, ignore the April 5 referendum by it sending a clear message to the authorities that the people are already tired of populism, artificial agenda, destructive policy of divisions into “whites” and “blacks,” the frequent shocks which did not promote the growth of the welfare of the people and real democracy.

“We apply to the political parties, civil society, our compatriots urging to unite their efforts to exclude “Yes,” prevent the anti-state process and finally start implementation of real reforms. The ARF-D will undertake all the necessary actions for it,” the statement concluded.

The referendum campaign will launch from February 17.
