U.S. plans to develop “culture of democracy” in Armenia
The U.S. Department of State Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Relations plans to allocate more than $ 640,000 to develop a “culture of democracy" in Armenia. This is stated in documents published by the American department.
As noted in the text, which was reviewed by RT, the funds allocated by the American side will be used to increase the resilience of the Armenian population “to negative influence”.
“The goal of the Bureau for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Relations is to promote a culture of democracy, supporting the efforts of Armenian civil society to increase the resilience of the population to negative influences. The goal of this project is to develop the ability of civil society in Armenia to detect disinformation, suppress its spread and mitigate its impact, ”the document states.
In addition, the text says that one of the aspects of the program could be monitoring local media to track data that is not true.
Within the framework of the project, specialists can, in particular, engage in the training of representatives of the civil society of Armenia on the basics of information security, so that, in turn, they can "protect themselves from attacks and attacks on the Internet." It is also assumed that the program will be aimed at "raising the level of awareness of the Armenian public about misinformation and the available tools to combat it."
Both American and foreign non-profit and non-governmental organizations, as well as private or public higher education institutions, can take part in the implementation of the project. It is noted that in some cases, commercial organizations are more likely to meet the necessary requirements.
Last year it was reported that the U.S. State Department will be engaged in raising "media literacy" in the Baltic countries - $ 1.5 million was allocated from the U.S. budget for these purposes.
