Former justice minister predicts arrests of CC judges if referendum fails
The current authorities need to change the Constitutional Court and appoint own CC judges to have CC which will approve all the decisions, former justice minister Davit Harutyunyan said at the Constitutional Security: Challenges and Solutions discussion today.
“The reality is that each state is strong when it has strong judicial system,” he said.
Harutyunyan said today the Constitutional Court consists of judges appointed by different authorities.
“This balance allows the conclusions of the court be really independent,” he said.
The former minister said that the recent developments allow to conclude that in case of failed referendum attempts will be made to arrest the CC judges.
“I suppose some noisy cases are already being “baked,”” Harutyunyan said, adding that CC judges may be arrested only in case of being deprived of immunity by the Constitutional Court.
“In any other way it will be a crime,” the former minister said.
