We must try to present to people what they are attempting to do: Yervand Varosyan on constitutional changes

To think that on April 5 people will make a choice between something is a deception, attorney Yervand Varosyan said at the Constitutional Security: Challenges and Solutions discussion today.

“Democracy means that people are giving mandate to branches of power for them to solve the issues. The people must not gather in the square and decide who to hang. In this way we will not return to medieval era but will return to slave system,” he said.

The lawyer said changing the Constitution illegally and sending Constitutional Court judge home illegally means excluding having independent Constitutional Court ever.

“The judges to be appointed by them realize very well that if they appear once in this court in anti-constitutional way, a day will come that they will go home in not less anti-constitutional way as the opportunity to renovate the Constitution is not fixed in the Constitution,” he said.

He said the actions undertaken today will give future authorities an opportunity to get rid of the judges ready to be appointed today with tougher methods.

“Nevertheless we must try to present to people what they are attempting to do,” Varosyan said.
