Armenia must think of building ANPP new power unit: expert
Armenia must think of building new power unit of Nuclear Power Plant, international UN specialist on energy affairs Ara Marjanyan told the reporters today.
He said in parallel with the extension of term of exploitation of 2d energy unit of ANPP, it is necessary to orient in the construction of new block.
“Armenia does not have enough stores of natural energy bearers and ensuring competitive prices for electricity to the economy is of strategic significance for the country. In its part, the refusal from nuclear power will cause serious energy, economic losses,” Marjanyan said.
As to Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Agreement, one of the demands of which is to close Armenia’s Nuclear Power Plant in 2026, the expert said the closure of ANPP is not expedient not having equivalent replacement.
Speaking about the sources of recovering energy, the expert said neither solar nor wind energy may ensure such guaranteed power as the ANPP, thus they cannot replace the nuclear power.
