Expert: Iran does not mean Artsakh’s unity with Azerbaijan while speaking about territorial integrity
Iran’s statements about principle of “territorial integrity” often worries Armenia, but we must always remember that Artsakh Republic has never been full part of Azerbaijan, expert in Iranian affairs Vardan Voskanyan said at the Current phase in Russian-Turkish relations and their possible impact on Artsakh discussion today.
“Consequently, when Iran states about Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, it does not mean Artsakh’s existence inside Azerbaijan. Besides, Iran is a multi-national state with various separatist movements. Consequently the Iranian authorities in no case will speak about the principle of self-determination of peoples, as they may face the issue of the so-called South Azerbaijan which supposes separation of some part of Iran and its unity with Azerbaijan,” the expert said.
