Peace treaty necessary before finding political solution to Artsakh issue: Vitaly Balasanyan

Peace treaty is necessary before political solution of the issue, Artsakh presidential candidate Vitaly Balasanyan told Aysor.am’s Profile program, asked what message he would like to address to the international community and OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs as presidential candidate.

“It is necessary in a very short period of time to sign peace treaty. While being a deputy I have many times stated it during the meetings with Minsk Group co-chairs in different formats. Before the political solution of the issue we need to sign peace treaty. This is the first important issue,” he said adding that until the skirmish between the parties continues the issue will not be settled.

As to whether all Armenian leaders where frank with Artsakh authorities regarding the peace talks, Balasanyan said he can state for sure about the second and third presidents.

“Before the peace talks they always met and informed the Artsakh authorities, then organized meetings with the presence of Minsk Group co-chairs, discussed the issues they were to discuss,” Balasanyan said.
