Such lexicon not appropriate to PM: Ashot Melikyan
Such like vocabulary is not appropriate to a prime minister and in general there is a need to review the lexicon, head of the Freedom of Speech Protection Committee Ashot Melikyan told Aysor.am, referring to Armenia’s PM speech that all the mass media were previously receiving money from authorities and now they are not.
“Now they don’t receive money, as a result of which they are furious. Even if they receive money from somewhere they do it cautiously, as they are afraid because if revealed they will be disgraced,” he said.
“Such statements must have addressees, if of course there are some facts. But we know that during the previous authorities many mass media were signing contracts for instance with the ministries of diaspora, culture, Yerevan Municipality and received funds. In was mainly of daily nature,” Melikyan said.
He said that that in general in Armenia the mass media field has been polarized long ago, divided into different political, economic camps and being funded from political sponsors.
“More probably, the prime minister meant it. Of course, it will not be difficult to publish the contracts with the ministries and publish the lists,” he said, stressing that it will be frank to do it, for the public to understand what the premier meant.
“I think it is not right to accuse all at once,” he said.
Earlier, Media Advocate released statement condemning the PM’s words.
