Peaceful settlement of Karabakh conflict possible only on the basis of mutual concessions: Armenia’s FM
The Armenian side will never agree to unilateral concessions, Armenia’s Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan told the reporters today, referring to the statement of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
“Peaceful settlement is possible only on the basis of mutual concessions. The Armenian side has not made concessions and will never make. The Armenian parties will never assume any approach that will endanger the security of Artsakh people,” Mnatsakanyan said.
“The mutual concessions must be proportional. The Armenian side must see in them full reflection of elements of security and status,” he added.
The minister stressed that this is the position of the Armenian side during the past two years and still remains.
“If anyone thinks that we may say one thing during the negotiations and another thing to the public, he/she is mistaken,” the minister said.
Mnatsakanyan also stressed that Lavrov made references to a number of documents.
“Such approaches appeared in 2014 in 2016 and were unacceptable for the Armenian sides. Since 2018 the discussions were restricted over separate elements. The option offered in 2014 is not a document at the negotiations today. We have spoken about our position more than clearly and stressed that the security element is priority for the Armenian sides,” Mnatsakanyan said.
