No new meeting between Armenia’s third president, Catholicos Karekin II took place: Third president’s office

One of the mass media reported about meeting of Armenia’s third president Serzh Sargsyan and His Holiness Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, stating as if the two “agreed to unite the efforts in fighting against the new authorities.”

The media said the two met to discuss the money laundry charges against Primate of Ararat Diocese of the Armenian church, Archbishop Navasard Ktchoyan and the developments over the church after Karekin II’s statement about necessity of change of preventive measure of Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan.

Aysor.am applied to the office of the third president for the comment.

“Of course, the information does not correspond to reality and has no grounds. After the resignation Armenia’s third president Serzh Sargsyan met Armenia’s Catholicos only twice and neither of the meetings took place after the criminal case instituted against Archbishop Ktchoyan,” the office representative told Aysor.am.

“The authors of conspiracy theory are making up the regular one over this topic. This is the reality. The issues discussed during the meetings with Catholicos corresponded to ones proper between Armenia’s Catholicos and resigned president,” the official said.
