Extension of state of emergency pursues exclusively political goal: Hayrenik party demands from authorities give up the decision to extend state of emergency
The extension of state of emergency pursues exclusively political goal, Hayrenik party said in the released statement today, stressing that the regime restricts freedom of gathering of the people, the parliamentary authority to express no confidence to the Prime Minister and restricts conduction of referendum.
“On June 13 the state of emergency prolonged for already two times ends. During this period it has become obvious that the state of emergency pursues exclusively political goal with the simple reason that the Armenian legislation, and in particular the laws regulating population’s protection in emergency situations fully and completely may ensure all the necessary legal tools without declaring state of emergency, by the way for reaching the very goals the acting government has put in the basis of declaring state of emergency,” the party said in the statement, stressing that the state of emergency is declared by the authorities for applying restrictions for their political goals.
“Not having the institute counterbalancing the protest actions, during this period the authorities were engaged in adopting various disputable laws complicating the people’s life and organizing criminal persecutions against political rivals. While all the moral and political norms were demanding that the parliament adopted laws relating only to the pandemic and refrained from any other initiatives until the public was restricted in the right to express its opinion,” the party said in the statement.
“The preservation of state of emergency does not give even one additional opportunity that may have any relation to fighting against the pandemic. Instead, during the state of emergency the freedom of people, parliamentary authority to express no confidence to the prime minister and conduction of constitutional referendum,” the statement said, adding that the incumbent political authorities clearly understand the wide public dissatisfaction ready to pin Pashinyan to the no-confidence column.
“Thus, considering the implementation of anti-epidemic measures obligatory, we demand that the authorities give up the extension of the state of emergency regime which will again result in the baseless restriction if constitutional rights of the citizens,” the statement concluded.
