Armenian Government with its actions today risks undoing everything that the revolution stood for: the ECR Party
In an issued statement the European Conservatives and Reformists Party expressed strong concerns on the actions of the Armenian government in recent days.
“On 16th of June the governing majority party in the Armenian Parliament voted to strip Prosperous Armenia’s leader Gagik Tsarukyan of his parliamentary immunity after he criticised the government on a number of issues, including the handling of the ongoing Coronavirus crisis. Opposition parties boycotted the vote and protestors in support of Prosperous Armenia were detained outside the Parliament building. Shortly before the vote, in the early hours of Sunday, National Security Services forces raided the offices of the Prosperous Armenia Party and the private home of Mr. Tsarukyan,” the statement said.
Richard Milsom, Executive Director of ECR Party mentioned: “Two years ago, was a watershed moment for the Republic of Armenia with the revolution and the promise of a new and more open country. The Government with its actions today risks undoing everything that the revolution stood for.”
“The ECR Party closely monitors the developments in Armenia,” the statement concluded.
