4,1 mln USD bail unprecedented amount for Armenia: Robert Kocharyan’s lawyer

Member of Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan’s defense team Aram Vardevanyan described the court hearings as unprecedented.

“In my practice, my colleagues will confirm too, we have not seen such volume of court hearings. For the first time in this period a high-ranking judge, after Mr Azaryan, examined in the Criminal Court of Appeal petition on Robert Kocharyan’s preventive measure,” Vardevanyan said.

Referring to the amount of bail – 2 billion AMD ($4,1 mln) – the lawyer said it is an unprecedented amount for bail in Armenia.

“However, it is necessary to focus not on the amount of the bail, but the circumstance that bail has been been recognized permissible. It was obvious for all,” Vardevanyan said.

As to what if the amount is not gathered, Vardevanyan said in that case they will appeal the amount of the bail.
