CSTO urges Armenia and Azerbaijan to immediately restore ceasefire
The CSTO Secretariat urges Baku and Yerevan to restore ceasefire on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, spokesperson Vladimir Zaynetdinov said in a statement.
“The CSTO Secretariat expresses serious concern over the aggravation of the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border that started from July 12 after military clashes between the armed forces of Armenia and Azerbaijan with the usage of heavy artillery and which resulted in casualties,” the statement said.
“The evolving situation does not promote the normalization of the situation on the border of two neighbor countries, one of which – the Republic of Armenia – is member state of the CSTO and testifies the violation of the agreement on ceasefire reached on the level of leadership of Armenia and Azerbaijan,” the statement reads.
The CSTO urged the parties “to immediately restore ceasefire in the zone of CSTO responsibility.”
The organization focused the attention on the fact that in their statements the Collective Security Council, CSTO Foreign Ministers have many times urged the conflicting parties to find exclusively peaceful settlement to the conflict and refrain from provocative actions to avoid escalation.
