Russia will not allow Turkey to strengthen its position in the region even for a little bit: expert
Turkey’s position in Artsakh’s issue has remained unchanged, expert in Turkey’s affairs Ruben Safrastyan said speaking to Aysor.am. He said this country is always standing by Azerbaijan and supports it.
“Of course, when it is said with all opportunities, it is not so, because Turkey’s diplomacy has a rather strongly accentuated segment of demagogy in it. What is being said, very frequently does not correspond to reality,” he said.
The expert stressed that during the border tension of the recent days, Turkey provided certain assistance to Azerbaijan but in the current phase, it does not provide full, wide-scale military assistance.
Safrastyan said in the created situation it is necessary to take into consideration Turkey’s direct interest which is not only providing certain assistance to Azerbaijan, making anti-Armenian statements but implementing its own programs in the region.
“Turkey’s program in the South Caucasian region is the expansion of its strategic influence. Turkey will try to reach its goal, but on the other hand, we saw that Russia, by launching wide-scale drills in the south military okrug, displayed rather tough position. Russian military ships entered Black and Caspian seas, showing that Russia will not allow Turkey to strengthen its positions in the region even for a little bit,” Safrastyan said.
