Armenia should enhance cooperation with Russia to confront Turkey: expert
Issue on confronting Turkey must be one of the key ones on Armenian-Russian agenda, director of Hayatsk think-tank Anna Karapetyan told Aysor.am.
“Today Turkey is more aggressive in its rhetoric about Armenia than it ever was. And even after the establishment of relative peace in Tavush Ankara continues provoking Azerbaijan for new actions,” she said, adding that this is serious issue of regional security which has not been limited to Artsakh issue only.
The expert said Russia is already undertaking some steps to confront Turkey.
“Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during his conversation with Turkish counterpart stressed the necessity to demonstrate balanced approaches and call the parties [Armenia, Azerbaijan] for restraint,” she said, adding that it is a call to stop the current policy.
Karapetyan also said that the wide-scale drills declared by Russia during these days was not accidental despite the statement of the Russia’s Ministry of Defense.
“Such activation of Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem and aggression is a threat to the stability in the region and it is very important for us to come with a joint front with our ally,” the expert said.
She stressed that the prior Armenian-Russian cooperation issue should be the confrontation of Turkey’s policy.
