Armenia’s PM responds to Russia Today's editor-in-chief’s comments (Video)
Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in an interview with Russian RBK referred to the notorious comment of the editor-in-chief of Russia Today Margarita Simonyan addressed to as she said “not to people of Armenia but the incumbent authorities.”
The comment surged a big wave of discontent in Armenia and in Armenian circles.
Referring to the point that Armenia has not recognized Crimea, the Armenian PM said, “Armenia has not recognized independence of Nagorno Karabakh too but does it mean that we do not defend Nagorno Karabakh? No. But at the same time Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh have united security area,” he said.
Commenting on Russia Today editor-in-chief's claims about the arrest of pro-Russian Armenian political figure Robert Kocharyan which she described as personal revenge, Pashinyan stressed that not separate figures but Armenian people in general are Russia’s allies.
“In Russia people must understand that Russia’s ally and partner are not Pashinyan, Petrosyan, Sargsyan, Kocharyan but Armenian people. It is a very important point,” the PM said, stressing that for many years many figures were representing themselves as the sole allies of Russia but in reality Russia’s allies are the Armenian people.
As to the claims about the foreign organizations acting in Armenia, Pashinyan said that they started operating in Armenia soon before he came to power in 2018.
“They were created in times when in Russia no one doubted in the pro-Russian moods of the Armenian government. All these organizations were created during Robert Kocharyan, Serzh Sargsyan term in office. If they were so pro-Russian why they did not close these organizations” he said.
