Urgent cleaning works necessary to save Lake Sevan: leader of environment initiative

In a few days there will no green background in Lake Sevan, leader of Green future environment initiative Vahagn Varagyan told the reporters today.

“But in reality the picture raises serious concerns. The near shore areas, the wood covered sectors need to be cleaned quickly,” he said, adding that otherwise favorable conditions are being created for cyanobacteria.

Varagyan said one of the key issues are the communities near the shore the savage waters of which mainly flow to Lake Sevan.

“Absence of cleaning stations creates favorable conditions for cyanobacteria to multiply, and we are in a phase of reaching some irreversible point as a result of which we will lose our national wealth – Lake Sevan,” Varagyan said.

He stressed that the relevant bodies must organize the cleaning works as soon as possible.

He also said that they will follow the works.
