No meeting between Armenian, Azerbaijani FMs scheduled: Armenia’s PM
Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan speaking today at the Government-NA Q&A said no meetings is scheduled between Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers as of now.
“We have discussions,” Pashinyan said, adding that he assesses the recent statement of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs as constructive, corresponding to their ideas of restoring the negotiation process.
“We have our principles in the negotiation process, but we have stated that we do not consider these principles pre-conditions, we have stated that we will not negotiate until these issues are settled, because if these issues are solved there will be no need to negotiate,” Armenia’s PM stated.
Pashinyan said it is Azerbaijan that has pre-conditions and says Karabakh must be part of Azerbaijan.
“This is the way I understand it,” Pashinyan said.
As to the expediency of the negotiations after July military actions, Armenia’s PM said that it is the same as before the clashes because Azerbaijan is always coming with bellicose rhetoric which are not in line with the logic of negotiations at all.
“But I think the position of the international community that Karabakh conflict has exclusively peaceful resolution is very clear, and the July clashes changed the following logic – we were telling that you cannot speak with Armenia and Artsakh in a language of force, Azerbaijan was telling that it would settle Karabakh issue in 24 hours. It appeared that Azerbaijan was wrong, we were right,” Pashinyan concluded.
