Turkey not to provide direct assistance to Azerbaijan to avoid Russia’s engagement in the conflict: Russian expert
Turkey will hardly provide open military assistance to Azerbaijan as it will force Russia help Armenia, military expert, academician Alexey Arbatov said.
“Azerbaijan will not manage to return Karabakh in a military way. If Turkey helped Azerbaijan with its big and well-armed army, it would have been new genocide for the Armenian people. In this case Russia would have been engaged in the conflict. The country would have to protect Armenia,” Arbatov, who is also head of Russia’s Academy of Sciences’ international security center told Interfax.
“Russian military base is deployed in Armenia. Turkey will hardly dare interfere directly,” Arbatov said.
“It is necessary to understand that Karabakh militaries are fighting for the territory they consider theirs. Knowing that they have no place to retreat, they will stand till the end,” he said.
