Russia’s MFA: Russia knew about Turkey’s position over Karabakh long before

Turkey’s position over Nagorno Karabakh was predictable, official representative of Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova stated on Tuesday.

“Unfortunately, it is not the first time when from the canned phase the situation enters the open phase. Corresponding statements were coming from Ankara before too,” Zakharova said to Komsomolsakaya Pravda radio station.

Asked whether such active position of Turkey could have been predicted, Zakharova said they knew about Turkey’s position long before.

As to why Russia behaves differently, Zakharova said, “We are not Turkey, we are Russia. It should be perceived with the direct meaning of the word. It is our history, our methods of conflict settlements have their history too. I am not going to comment on the methodology of Turkey or any other country. We have different rhetoric, our statements differ.”
