France's Macron says Armenia-Azerbaijan truce must be respected
French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday welcomed Armenia and Azerbaijan’s agreement to a humanitarian truce from midnight and stressed that it should be strictly respected by both parties.
“The President of the Republic welcomes the humanitarian truce announced tonight jointly by Armenia and Azerbaijan after the French mediation held in recent days and hours in coordination with the co-chairs of the Minsk Group,” the French president’s office said in a statement.
Macron also stressed that this ceasefire must be unconditional and strictly observed by both sides.
“France will be very attentive to this and will remain committed so that hostilities cease permanently and that credible discussions can quickly begin,” the statement said.
