Armenian, France’s presidents meet, discuss situation in Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone
Armenia’s President Armen Sarkissian met with President of France Emmanuel Macron in Elysee Palace.
During the meeting the presidents of the two countries discussed the situation in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone.
President Sarkissian expressed gratitude to President Macron, stressing that Armenia highly evaluates OSCE Minsk Group co-chair France and personally Macron’s efforts and position in the conflict settlement.
In his turn, France’s President Macron expressed concern over the continuing hostilities and the created situation.
The two presidents agreed that the peaceful settlement of the conflict has no alternative and emphasized the necessity of implementation of ceasefire agreements.
Armenia’s president stated that armed forces of Azerbaijan continue targeting civilian settlements in Nagorno Karabakh killing and wounding civilian population.
Sarkissian also expressed deep concern over Turkey’s military-political support to Azerbaijan which escalates the situation more and threatens the regional stability.
He stressed that the Islamic terrorists transported by Turkey to Azerbaijan fighting on Azeri side are of special threat, not excluding that after a while they may appear in other countries, including Europe.
Presidents of Armenia and France stated about the core role of the OSCE Minsk Group in the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict and necessity to bring the conflicting parties back over the table of negotiations.
