Issues of Vorotan and Shurnukh communities may have painful solutions – Armenia’s PM
At the cabinet sitting today Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan spoke about the border point location works in Armenia’s Syunik.
“These issues have some nuances and difficulties but our conviction is that these works must take place and this work is necessary from the point of view of ensuring security of Syunik and Armenia,” the Prime Minister said.
He said these processes may receive different interpretations.
“We increase Syunik’s security guarantees and form new system of security guarantees for Armenia. We have two settlements over which some issues may raise, the one is Vorotan and the second Shurnukh, where we have some border issues and works over it are undergoing every day,” he said.
The premier stressed that these issues may result in painful situations.
“But I want to assure that the government will come up with equivalent compensations and the interests of our citizens will fully be protected,” he said.
Pashinyan said it has never been spoken about conceding a millimeter of the internationally recognized borders of Armenia and cannot be but it does not mean that these processes must be considered demarcation and delimitation of the borders.
“The location of border points is being decided aimed at ensuring the security,” the PM stressed.
He said he had discussion today with the commander of Armenian border guard troops, gave concrete instructions for the process to pass as smoothly as possible.
Pashinyan noted that the government will fully compensate the citizens the possible property losses.
