Mechanical approach to demarcation of borders wrong – Armenia’s Ombudsman
In the sidelines of demarcation of borders the monitoring implemented by the Armenian Human Rights Defender’s Office has recorded a number of issues, Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan said at a news conference today.
“For instance Shurnukh village of enlarged Goris community has been divided into two parts with a road – Azerbaijani and Armenia. And for instance Styopa Movsisyan’s house and cattle barn were divided in two. It is a consequence of mechanical approaches to the issue. The process of demarcation of borders cannot be mechanical,” he said.
The Ombudsman said different sectors of road are under Azerbaijani control with their flags and posters installed there.
“Twenty-one kilometer of 68km-long road taking from Goris to Vorotan and Shurnukh to Kapan is under Azerbaijan’s control. Azeri soldiers are provocatively installing the posters and periodically appear on the road with weapon. These roads are tying our civilian settlements and this issue has occurred due to application of mechanical approaches,” he said.
