Construction of medical center in Martuni to be completed in 2022
The Armenian government approved at the cabinet sitting today the draft loan agreement on Additional Funding to Prevention and Control of Diseases program.
Newly appointed health minister Anahit Avanesyan said the agreement envisages allocation of 7,4 million USD.
She said yet in 2013 a financing contract costing 35 million USD was signed between Armenia and the International Development company.
The agreement intended upgrading of Gegharkunik province’s Martuni medical center and Vayots Dzor regional hospital. In particular, it was envisaged to carry out reconstruction works, acquire medical devices and furniture.
She added that with the changes made on March 6, 2020 construction of new regional hospital in Vayots Dzor and its upgrading was intended to be withdrawn from the loan program due to high cost of construction works.
She said the financial means would not have been enough for the upgrading of two medical centers and it was considered expedient to direct the means for the upgrading of Martuni medical center.
The construction of new medical center in Vayots Dzor has been envisaged by government’s 2019-2023 program.
The minister said the construction of Martuni medical center is in active phase and construction of medical center in Vayots Dzor will launch soon.
“The two centers are of strategic significance. The two are not in good condition and the construction of new ones will promote providing high-quality medical services,” she said, stressing that the construction of Martuni medical center will be completed in 2022.
