We always negotiated over what we would get, not give - Armenia's third president
We have never negotiated over what we would give, but what we would get, Armenia’s third president Serzh Sargsyan said in an interview to Armnews TV Channel.
“But for these people negotiations were the issue of giving or not giving. What we wanted and what was a red line for us was that Nagorno Karabakh would never be part of Azerbaijan. This was our red line and we defended it until April 23, 2018,” Sargsyan said.
He refuted the opinion that the Armenian side orally agreed to concede 7 regions at the cost of stopping the 2016 April war.
“In reality there was no such thing. The April war was stopped with Russia’s mediation after Azerbaijan applied to it having suffered many losses and forced to sit at the table of negotiations,” Sargsyan said.
He said the Armenian side was expected to sign new ceasefire treaty to which Yerevan did not agree.
