Armenia president, ombudsman meet, discuss issue of return of captives
Armenia’s president Armen Sarkissian met today with the Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan.
The Ombudsman briefed on the works carried out by the staff of the Ombudsman during the recent months.
In particular he presented the issues registered during the visits of the staff to bordering villages, noting that representatives of Azerbaijani authorities continuously and consistently are carrying out planned actions violating the internationally recognized rights of the residents of the bordering villages.
Tatoyan also presented their observations regarding Armenia’s state borders, stating that the process takes place with gross violations of human rights. He said they have already applied to relevant international instances.
The president and the ombudsman made a special reference to the works on returning the Armenian prisoners of war and civilians kept in the Azerbaijani side.
The ombudsman briefed to the president in details the works carried out by its staff noting that they are cooperating with all structures involved and international organizations.
Arrangement has been reached to jointly work on raising the issues of return of captives and voicing the concerns of the Armenian side in international instances.
