Armenia’s Security Council urges President sign decree on releasing Chief of the General Staff
Armenia’s Security Council, being a body defining the key directions of the defense sector policy, strongly condemns all attempts to engage the Armed Forces in political processes, the statement issued by the SC office today says.
“RA Constitution clearly defines the impermissibility of involving Armed Forces in the political processes and the circumstance of being under the civilian control. According to the law, the appointment and release motion of the person holding the highest military post of the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces is at the discretion of the head of the Government,” the statement says, adding that being an important institute which follows the preservation of the Constitution, Armenia’s president must demonstrate relevant approach.
“Stemming from above mentioned, the Security Council urges the president to uphold the motion of the PM to release the Chief of the General Staff from the post and sign relevant decree,” the statement said.
