If president fails to implement his duties, process of his impeachment should be launched

A group of citizens and advocates headed by the president of Bar Chamber are conducting protest action in front of the president’s residence demanding that President Armen Sarkissian applies to the Constitutional Court to recognize the motion to release Chief of the General Staff of Armed Forces unconstitutional.

“It is clear that the president stated about not signing the decree of releasing the chief of the general Staff but it is also clear from his stance that he is not hurrying to apply to the CC either. It turns out that the president has chosen the path of inactivity the right of which he does not have and in these conditions instead of transferring the dispute between two serious constitutional bodies into the judicial platform he denies the deal leaving us all to our fate,” Ara Zohrabyan said.

The participants of the action submitted written demand to the president with the request to apply to CC today.

“If the president does not apply to CC today, we, the initiators, will try to reveal the fears of the president – why he is afraid of the premier, what the problem is that the president changed his stance and whether again he was asked to show document on his citizenship,” Zohrabyan said.

He also stressed that there are two variants of the solution of the issue – either the PM rejects his motion or the president applies to the CC.

“If neither of these two ways is selected we appear in crisis,” he said.

Zohrabyan stressed that if the president shows inactivity and fails to implement his duties, it will serve a basis to start the process of his impeachment.
