He imitates actions which he better not imitate – Ara Saghatelyan on president’s steps
Former head of the NA staff, first political prisoner in post-war period Ara Saghatelyan believes the way Chief of the General Staff of Armenian Armed Forces Onik Gasparyan adopted is the most proper one.
“The people wanted to know where the army is, and learnt that it is not with Nikol Pashinyan. The public rebellion was taking place before the statement of the General Staff, during it and after. It is obvious that the relevant constitutional regulation supposes that prime ministers may change frequently while the Chief of the General Staff holds office for at least five years. In legal respect Pashinyan has no influence on the tenure of the Chief of the General Staff except for appointment,” Saghatelyan said in an interview to Yerkir Media.
He stressed that there is no mechanism of recall of the Chief of the General Staff by the legislation another thing is that legal processes are not for this country.
Referring to the actions of president Armen Sarkissian regarding Onik Gasparyan’s case, Saghatelyan said, “I am trying to be restrained regarding Armen Sarkissian, indeed, there are things I want to say but they are not for air. He imitates certain actions which he'd better don't.”
