Government to soon come up with initiative to lift martial law

Armenia’s NA opposition factions came up with legislative initiative on annulling the martial law in the country.

The initiative has been discussed at the Defense and Security Affairs Standing Committee.

Key reporter Arman Abovian from PAP faction stated that the grounds for martial law have been eliminated.

“Keeping martial law now is a serious impediment for political developments,” he stressed.

Bright Armenia faction head Edmon Marukyan added that the martial law does not allow the opposition to start impeachment process against the PM.

My Step faction deputy in his turn stressed that the martial law does not impede any actions of the opposition and reminded about the military drills in the region.

Committee’s chairman Andranik Kocharyan stated that the martial law does not impede the political developments in the country and stressed that in near future the government will come up with a initiative of lifting it.

After the discussion the legislative initiative did not receive positive conclusion of the committee.
